FAQ

Welcome to our Frequently Asked Questions section. Since 1996, Sauny Patrik 7 has been building custom saunas for customers in Slovakia and abroad. Here you’ll find answers to the questions we receive most often so you can get the information you need quickly.

What types of saunas do you offer?

We specialize in Finnish saunas, infrared saunas, steam cabins, combi saunas and outdoor sauna houses. A Finnish sauna operates at high temperatures (up to 110 °C) with low humidity, whereas a steam sauna features almost 100 % humidity and temperatures around 30–60 °C. Infrared saunas use infrared radiation and have lower temperatures of about 30–45 °C. A combi sauna combines the benefits of different types; in one cabin you can choose Finnish, infrared or BIO steam operation.

How is a custom sauna made?

The process starts with a free consultation and on‑site measurement. Our experts help you choose the type of sauna, dimensions and materials. Once the design is approved, we build the cabin in our own workshop using high‑quality wood such as Nordic spruce, Canadian cedar, linden or abachi. The cabin includes benches, backrests, a removable grate, lighting, a heater or infrared radiators and a control unit. After manufacturing we arrange transport and professional installation.

What is the difference between a Finnish, infrared and steam sauna?

A Finnish sauna is a “dry” sauna — it reaches high temperatures (90–110 °C) with humidity of about 5–10 %. A steam sauna has lower temperature (30–60 °C) but almost 100 % humidity and is suitable for treating respiratory or skin conditions. An infrared sauna uses infrared radiation that penetrates deeper into tissues and operates at 30–45 °C; it’s ideal for children, seniors and people who can’t tolerate high heat.

How long does it take to manufacture and install a sauna?

The production time depends on the type and complexity of the project. Most custom saunas are delivered within 4–6 weeks after order confirmation. On‑site installation usually takes 1–2 days depending on the size of the cabin and the readiness of the room.

What types of wood do you use to make saunas and why?

e use only Category A, premium wood. The most popular options are Nordic spruce and thermo spruce (resistant to warping), Canadian red cedar (fragrant and durable), linden (light‑colored, smooth) and abachi – African willow (low thermal conductivity, so it doesn’t burn). Customers can choose the material based on appearance and characteristics; we treat all wood surfaces to withstand high temperatures and humidity.

What maintenance does a home sauna require?

Maintenance is simple: after each sauna session allow the cabin to cool and air out. Wipe benches with a damp cloth and occasionally use mild soap. Do not coat the wood with varnish – it will naturally condition over time. We also recommend checking the heater or infrared panels regularly and scheduling an annual professional service.

What are the health benefits of sauna bathing?

Sauna bathing aids detoxification and weight loss, improves blood circulation, strengthens the immune system, relieves muscle and joint pain, and reduces stress and fatigue. Infrared saunas burn calories and support the cardiovascular system, while steam saunas benefit the respiratory tract. Always consider your health condition and consult a doctor if you have chronic illnesses.

Is the sauna suitable for children, seniors and people with health restrictions?

Yes, but moderation and supervision are essential. Infrared saunas are more suitable for people who can’t tolerate high heat. Children should stay in the sauna for shorter periods at lower temperatures; seniors and those with heart or breathing issues should consult a doctor beforehand.

How energy-intensive are your saunas?

Our infrared saunas have significantly lower operating costs than Finnish or steam saunas. We use DR. FISCHER radiators and quality insulation to retain heat in the cabin. Finnish saunas with a stone heater consume more energy but, when used correctly (preheating, switching off while residual heat lasts), they are efficient.

Do you provide service and warranty?

Yes. All our products are covered by a warranty (usually 24 months for the cabin and 2 years for the heater or infrared panels; details are in the warranty document). We provide post‑warranty service and supply spare parts. Simply contact us to arrange a repair or periodic check.

Do you also deliver saunas outside Slovakia?

Yes, we deliver and install saunas not only in Slovakia but also in the Czech Republic, Austria, Croatia, Belgium and other countries, as shown in our references. Transport and installation costs depend on distance and project size; we will calculate the exact price during consultation.

How to choose the right size and type of sauna?

Consider how many people will use the sauna, the available space in your home or garden, the purpose (relaxation, therapy, sports recovery) and your preferred temperature. For families a small 2–3 person cabin is sufficient; wellness centres may require larger saunas or combi systems. If you’re unsure, we are happy to help during a personal consultation.

Is a building permit required for an outdoor sauna?

For small garden saunas a simple notification of a minor building to the building authority is usually sufficient. If the sauna house includes additional rooms (entrance hall, shower, relaxation room) or is attached to another building, you may need a building permit. Requirements depend on local regulations; please consult your municipality.

What sauna accessories do you recommend?

Accessories complete the sauna experience. We offer cooling tubs and pools, essential oils for aromatherapy, hourglasses, thermometers, peelings, textiles and sauna hats. In addition we supply various types of stoves, control units, LED lighting, MP3 radios and fiber optic “star‑sky” lighting. For post‑sauna relaxation we provide ergonomic loungers.
